Tiffany Marchak has proven she’s got the chops to perform in front of an audience. As an American Idol season two contestant, she not only had to go toe to toe with thousands of other singers, but she had to deal with the wrath of Simon Cowell’s critiques. So as a member of The Avenue, a 10-piece party band that covers jazz, Motown and ’80s as well as hits from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, she’s not afraid to step up to the mic. “People have a lot of nostalgia with the songs we perform,” Marchak says. “They are all songs you’ve heard before with our little twist.” Along with two other singers and seven instrumentalists, the band is able to create a full-bodied sound that others can’t, thanks in part to the EWI. A half-wind, half-electronic instrument played by sax player Chris Vollstadt, it is the Avenue’s secret weapon. “He can create a lot of the sounds you hear in music today,” she says. “He can make all of the produced and electronic sounds that a live band can’t always pull off.” clevelandmusicgroup.com/entertainment/the-avenue
