Starbucks almost broke Instagram when it unleashed its Unicorn Frappuccinos in April. But Kiwi Wongpeng wasn’t about to let the coffee mega chain take the rainbow-colored crown. “I was like, Wait, I’m gonna show you,” she says with a giggle. “I’m queen unicorn.” So the Thai Thai owner created her own Thai-inspired version called the Galaxy Unicorn drink ($7). Artfully layered with four frozen unsweetened bubble tea flavors (mango, honeydew, taro and strawberry), the Wongpeng creation ups the fantasy factor by topping the 20-ounce drink with sugary treats such as chocolate and strawberry doughnuts, sprinkles, gummy worms, marshmallows and lollipops. Spotting one of these fanciful froths is almost as rare as the mythical creature. The Lakewood restaurant makes just 100 drinks one day every few months. (The last sighting of the year will be Oct. 14.) “I didn’t want to do it too much,” she says. “People get excited for it. They’re like, It’s happening again!”
