After closing the popular Graffiti Social Kitchen and Cork & Cleaver over the last 12 months, it took a lot of balls for co-owners and executive chefs Brian Okin and Adam Bostwick to open Polpetta, a build-your-own meatball eatery, last month. “When you go to a restaurant, everything is kind of predetermined for you,” says Bostwick. “We’re now putting the ball in your court.” Choose from 10 meatballs including beef, chorizo, a lobster and crab combination, or vegetarian options such as black bean and rice. Then pick one of 20 sauces such as coconut chili or wild mushroom gravy along with one of 20 sides ranging from traditional spaghetti to fried rice, spaetzle, braised greens or squash noodles. If you’re worried about dropping the ball on your first visit, you can choose from nine expertly crafted dishes such as the RR Pirate ($17) where lobster and crab balls swim in a Thai hot sauce over vegetable hash. “The combinations are endless,” says Bostwick. “You can come here 100 times and eat something different every single time.” 19900 Detroit Road, Rocky River, 216-860-4474, primopolpetta.com
