As the oldest working brewery in Lake County, Willoughby Brewing Co. is a seasoned veteran when it comes to providing patrons with tasty brews and food pairings in a casual atmosphere perfect for a night — or carefree afternoon — out. “The biggest thing that appeals to people is that at any given time, we can be different things to different people,” says general manager Steve McAdams.
Of course, this local hangout also draws crowds looking for the refreshing, local flavors of master brewer Rick Seibt. Willoughby Brewing keeps about 10 beers on tap, from pale ales and porters to Kolsch styles, as well as guest taps from other experts of the craft.
For a light-bodied pint to enjoy under the covered patio, opt for the Moondance IPA, a “golden-colored hop-bomb with light malt flavors that allow the juicy hops to come through,” says McAdams. Or, take a walk on the wild side with the award-winning peanut butter cup coffee porter, which earned a gold medal in the specialty beer category at the 2014 World Beer Cup.
“It simply comes down to the variety, consistency and quality of the beer we produce on a daily basis,” McAdams says of the popularity of Willoughby Brewing. “It’s nice to be recognized for all the hard work the brewers do.”
