Slushies have finally made it to the grown-ups table. When Destiny Burns opened CLE Urban Winery in July, she wanted to make a vino version of the childhood favorite after discovering a similar sipper at a Virginia winery. “It was the most refreshing thing,” she remembers. Burns blends up a rotating selection of the frothy treat such as the Froze, a mix of her Rust Belt rose, white zinfandel, red raspberries, water, sugar, pomegranate juice and green tea. “It’s the green tea that actually makes it turn slushie,” she says. Guests at the Cedar Lee neighborhood spot can buy a carafe ($15) to share with a few friends, a single glass ($8) or take home a slushie kit ($10) that makes two batches in the freezer. “The nose is like a 7-Eleven blue raspberry slushie,” Burns says, “but the taste is sweet candy balanced by the tartness from the berries.” 2180B Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, 216-417-8313, cleurbanwinery.com
