Those living their golden years may need a little assistance, but life should still be a playground for maximum enrichment and enjoyment. Sheryl L. Sereda, vice president of advancement and chief advancement officer at Eliza Jennings, which operates the award-winning 66-suite senior assisted-living facility Devon Oaks in Westlake, offers her tips to maintain the health of mind, body and spirit.
Stay Connected: “One of the reasons why an assisted-living community is so good is that for older adults to stay connected is really critically important to their health and quality of life. Being a part of a social group is important. We take our residents out to baseball games, museums and local parks.”
Stay Active: “Being able to take a walk, being able to move about is critical. At Devon Oaks, we have walking trails, outdoor gardens and patios where people, even if they aren’t fully ambulatory, have the ability to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.”
Stay Nourished: “Nutrition is, at any age, critically important. But as you age, it’s even more so to retain good health. To ensure that you have the greatest quality of life, you want to make certain that you’re eating well, you’re getting good nutrition and you stay hydrated. We have a chef who prepares healthy, tasty meals using fresh produce from scratch each day for our residents.”
