Launching a new urban apartment building can be difficult at any time, but when you’re in the middle of a pandemic it can be downright complex — unless the allure of the property is exceptional. With its location in the heart of Cleveland’s retail district on Public Square, the May offers modern luxury apartment living with ties to the city’s historic architectural past.
“Leasing at the May officially began in July 2020 with a phased move-in approach,” says Ken Till, senior vice president of development at Bedrock, a full-service commercial real estate firm specializing in strategic development of urban core neighborhoods. “We had our first official tenants take residence in mid- to late-August, which means that they got to take advantage of the outdoor space and seasonal amenities offered as part of the May experience.
“We have seen ongoing interest at the May, and our leasing team continues to conduct virtual and in-person tours,” adds Till. “While the pandemic has certainly affected downtown real estate and living, in general, the May has fared relatively well. We offer an ideal space to work, live and play, and the location, amenities and in-unit features make it that much more convenient and enjoyable. With the spring and summer months ahead, we are excited to continue the momentum and welcome even more residents to the May.”
The May is close to many entertainment and sports complexes, educational and learning institutions and essential retail options across the neighborhood.
“It is also close to public transit and green spaces, including the waterfront that we hope will see a lot of activity this summer and beyond,” says Till. “For those who want to be in the middle of all of the action while still having the security and comforts, the May has all of the amenities and features you need in one place to experience sophisticated city living.”
There are 307 market-rate apartments in varying sizes and 45 unique layout options, including some two-story lofts, all with a variety of vantage points and city views. Floor plans vary in size from 570-square-foot studios to 1,413-square-foot bedroom suites.
All of the suites at the May have the look and feel of home. They are outfitted with contemporary decor, such as stainless-steel appliances, in-unit laundry and quartz countertops, and some units have granite-covered islands that separate the kitchen from the roomy living space. There are also sizeable windows that allow for plenty of natural light, and most suites also feature high ceilings between around 10 to 13 feet.
One of the May’s most unique amenities is the amount of outdoor space it offers to residents. This includes select units with attached balconies and a centrally located outdoor atrium with lounge furniture, music and a boardwalk with a built-in snow-melt feature. There is also a spacious, private roof deck for residents to relax and entertain. It has an outdoor kitchen, gas grills and fire pits available throughout the year — all within the heart of downtown.
