Cleveland was just an investment for Haim and Amanda Mayan — until it became their home. Married in 2005, the couple are parents to 13-year-old Maya and 10-year-old Noah. They also are partners in the real-estate investment firm MAN Holdings and Yosemite Properties. They were living and doing business in Miami when they decided to explore other markets. That’s when Cleveland caught them by surprise.
Commuting to Cleveland: The couple began buying investment properties in Cleveland in 2015. Haim spent Monday through Thursdays here. “My first day here, it was 5 degrees,” Haim says. “We were never really intending to move,” Amanda adds. “It wasn’t a decision so much as it was an evolution. But, we fell in love with Cleveland and, a year ago, ended up here permanently. It’s a great place to raise a family.”
Building Team Mayan: “Haim is the dreamer, and I’m really good at lining up all of the mechanics needed to make that happen,” Amanda says. The couple specialize in buying distressed buildings and reviving them in an environmentally friendly way. So far, they’ve renovated more than 400 residential units and 90,000 square feet of commercial space.
Life Outside of Work: The family just moved to a Shaker Heights home built in 1917. They enjoy participating in the local Jewish community, mountain biking, cooking, walking to area restaurants, inviting friends over and having big adventures, such as the European road rally from Germany to Kyrgyzstan they did for charity last summer.
Shared Values: “There’s something beyond working just to make money,” Amanda says. “It’s our passion to be able to provide clean, safe housing to all sectors of the economy.” What about Northeast Ohio’s weather? Spring, summer and fall are glorious, and winter has its charms. “In the winter… a day like today with beautiful snow…I’ll take it,” Haim says.
