Favorite Quote: “Your greatest uninsured asset is your reputation.”
Historic Figure Who Inspires Me: My great-uncle, a white, Jewish furrier in Newark, New Jersey, who passed away at 95. I inherited a wallet containing his NAACP membership card from 1959. The card lists five critical objectives: legal rights, injustice, education, voting rights and cultural awareness. The sixth objective still hits me like a ton of bricks: “to stop lynching.”
What I’d Tell 16-Year-Old Me: Scrape together every dime you can and buy $1,000 of Berkshire Hathaway (worth $4.6 million today), $1,000 of Amazon ($1.6 million) and $1,000 of Microsoft ($3.5 million).
If I Could Have Any Other Job: To own and manage Birdland in New York City, one of the great jazz clubs in the world
If I Could Relive One Moment: In 2012, I had the thrill of a lifetime when I went to the top of Terminal Tower to hoist the American flag.
