Education: Duke University, bachelor’s degree; The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, doctorate in law
First Job: I worked at a high-end ladies’ shoe boutique, and I built and sustained a babysitting empire.
Greatest Inspiration: My three children. Our middle child, Elizabeth, experiences the world through the lens of autism spectrum disorder. Despite the fact that things most of us take for granted can be very difficult for her, she has an indefatigable positivity and willingness to keep trying. Her older sister, Julia, and her younger brother, Jimmy, are the best allies a person could have.
Best Advice: I vividly remember my Dad saying at the end of a terrible day, “We try again tomorrow.” I remind myself that it’s as simple as that. Sometimes, bad things will happen, and it’s on me to shake it off, learn something, regroup and try again.
What I’d Tell 16-Year-Old Me: You don’t control quite as many things as you think you do.
