College Now Greater Cleveland
Education: Colgate University; George Washington University, master’s degree
First Job: Presidential fellow in the Carter Administration
Previous Leadership Positions: Inaugural president and CEO, Cleveland Leadership Center; president and CEO, Downtown Cleveland Partnership; and executive director, Clean-Land, Ohio.
Important Lesson Learned: Don’t listen to the static — listen to the music. Albert Ratner told me this 30 years ago when
I was in my first job as CEO of a nonprofit. It’s a great lesson for those of us who are in mission-driven work. It’s too easy to get caught up in distraction. Stay on course
and on message.
Most Important Skill: Hire the most talented, self-motivated and collaborative staff. Then get out of the way.
