NASA Glenn Research Center
Education: University of Puerto Rico, bachelor’s degree; University of Toledo, master’s degree; Case Wester Reserve University, doctorate in chemical engineering
Toughest Challenge: Adjusting to the new culture and the language when I moved to Cleveland. When NASA recruited me from the University of Puerto Rico engineering school, I had never been to the mainland U.S. I didn’t speak English comfortably, and I didn’t have a lot of family here. So, I had to create a sense of belonging for myself.
How I Motivate Others: Creating a culture of engagement and appreciation. Even the most self-motivated people can lose steam if they don’t feel appreciated.
Most Inspiring Person: My mother and my grandmother. They both had so much resilience and determination.
Proudest Moment: Becoming a mom. I have two grown sons. They are my guiding light. I’m their biggest fan, and they are my biggest fans.
