Q: What skills do students need to prepare them for the 21st century?
A: “A term that I like to use is information literacy,” says Gregg Good, head of school at Montessori High School at University Circle. “Kids need to become literate with all of the information that they are deluged by in the 21st century. In order to make good decisions and to be critical and analytical in the way they process information, there are a number of skills that cumulatively add up to this information literacy. Kids need to be discerning. Kids need to be comfortable with ambiguity. Kids need, ultimately, to be able to collaborate and make mistakes and fail competently, and learn from that. At the end of the day, we want students who are independent thinkers, who are creative, who are problem solvers.”
