Q: What can parents do to make the college application process more appealing?
A: “Parents can really partner with their students,” says Mark Ledoux, director of recruitment and undergraduate admissions at Kent State University. “One of the most important things is the college visit. Summer is a great time to visit campus because families may already have some time off, so they can combine vacation plans or summer trips with college visits. When you go for that campus visit, make sure you can spend a good half-day there. So not only do you get that admissions information and campus tour, but you also find out about costs and financial aid and living on campus. Get a chance to interact with other students on campus to see if it’s really comfortable for your child.”
