Q: How does the International Baccalaureate program benefit students as they move on to college?
A: “It’s a holistic preparation that is focused on the higher order of thinking that’s required in college,” says Nick Beyer, dean of academics at Beaumont School. “It asks students to be inquirers and critical thinkers, so the products they produce in class are more similar to college products — in terms of papers and projects and performances — than is commonly found in so many high school classrooms across the country. Students that have an IB diploma are twice as likely to get accepted into the more competitive colleges throughout the U.S. and throughout the world. They earn far more scholarship dollars than non-IB students. They also receive a fair amount of college credit entering college based on their performance and the end-of-year examinations or course exams. It’s also proven that students with IB diplomas are more likely to finish college.”
