Q: What should families consider when choosing a school?
A: “Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions a family can make to position their child for success,” says Roseann Canfora, chief communications officer at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. “Families have more choices than ever when it comes to finding the right fit. The one-size-fits-all schools of yesterday have been replaced with new school models in choice districts like Cleveland where schools offer curriculum with an arts focus, a Montessori or gifted and talented school option or a STEM focus. Gone are the days when children were expected to attend the school closest to their home. Visit schools and talk with teachers and principals. Ask about quality preschools, before- and after-school tutoring programs, career-tech, extracurricular activities and early college options where students can earn college credit while attending high school.”
