Q: What should parents consider when choosing a school for their child?
A: “We embrace the concept of choice and encourage our families to look at all the options that we have in our diverse portfolio of schools,” says Rick McIntosh, Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s executive director of school choice and enrollment. “They should consider the skills, the interest and the aptitudes of their child and try to find the fit that matches those. It’s very important that a family visits perspective schools. Does the culture and environment match where you think your child will feel comfortable and encouraged to exceed the expectations that you have for them? Families should get together and talk about those choices because a child has to feel that this is the place for them, because they are spending their time there.”
