Row Your Boat
Crews from all over the Midwest descend upon the Flats on Saturday, Sept. 22 for the Head of the Cuyahoga Rowing Regatta.
The sixth-annual event this year includes rowers from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, John Carroll University, Michigan State University, Shaker Heights High School, Cleveland St. Ignatius High School and many more from Michigan, Pennsylvania and other parts of Ohio.
Races begin at 8 a.m., and the best places for viewing are the Eagle Ave. bridge and the Center St. bridge, says Kathy Blazek of the Western Reserve Rowing Foundation, the group coordinating the event. Most races start in the southern end of the Flats near LTV Steel and end near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, where the Nautica Queen docks.
The event will take place rain or shine and there is no admission charge. Parking in the Flats generally costs between $1 and $8, depending on location. Limited on-street parking is available.
