Playing Tribute
Jahja Ling and Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the Cleveland Orchestra Sept. 30 as it honors the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 attacks on New York City and Washington D.C.
The concert will be held at Severance Hall, is free and begins at 3 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and seating arrangements are on a first-come first-serve basis. Performances include "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Fanfare for the Common Man" and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5."
The concert, titled "A Concert in Tribute and Remembrance," will be simulcast on WCLV-FM (104.9), WCLV-AM (1420) and WVIZ-TV (Channel 25).

The Robot Zoo
How do animals do what they do? The Great Lakes Science Center provides some answers with the opening of the "Robot Zoo" exhibit Sept. 28.
While not a complete menagerie, the robot zoo features eight animals including a giant squid, giraffe and rhinoceros that help illustrate the science behind the life of animals.
While at the center, take in the OMNIMAX version of the "Ring of Fire," featuring the Pacific Ocean's circle of volcanoes.

A Taste of the Rhine
Stan Hywet Hall hosts its fifth wine tasting of the year Sept. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. Wines featured are from the Rheingau region in Germany. Bread, cheese and fruit will be served with the 10 featured vintages nine are white.
Darryl Spansky, district manager at the Hammer Co., a Streetsboro-based wine-distributing firm, will speak about the wines and foods that complement them during the program.
Admission is $24 for members of Stan Hywet Hall and $30 for nonmembers. Between 80 and 100 people are expected, and reservations are recommended. Expect a very intimate setting and a great time.
