Foreign Affairs: Views from the Window
Coming all the way from Dresden, Germany, residency exchange artists Sunjte Sagerer and Nina Holzweg proudly make their U.S. debut. Impressionistic still lifes of familiar spaces — kitchens, dollhouses, yards — pop with sharp contrast and color. The fresh work is influenced by the artists’ time spent perusing the neighborhoods of Cleveland. Hingetown Hoedown
Once a year, Cleveland gets a much-needed dose of folk from Appalachia. Inspired by the string-band music of yesterday and the contemporary newgrass of today, the Hoedown boasts a day full of foot-stomping music on four stages, flanked by craft beer stands, food trucks and kid-friendly activities. Taps Flow at Lakewood Wine & Craft Beer
Around 200 craft beer and wine vendors from 100 breweries and wineries pair together for the city’s fourth annual drink fest. Centered in the heart of downtown Lakewood, the event draws nearly 2,000 attendees annually, and highlights great grub from 10 of the area’s hottest eateries, along with live music on the First Federal Lakewood Stage. 9/11: A Day of Remembrance and Community
In memoriam of the 15th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Public Square pays tribute to tragedy with a 12-hour ceremony. Beginning with a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., the commemoration features remarks by Rev. Gloria Chaney-Robinson, chaplain for the Cleveland Police, a following benediction and a selection of patriotic music, including a performance of taps from 80-year-old local trumpeter John Young. Jazz at Lake View Cemetery
You’re probably thinking: music at a cemetery? In an effort to promote Lake View’s prime spot for performance, Cleveland jazz venue Nighttown hosts a string of shows set in the epicenter of the city’s iconic burial ground. This weekend, catch Hubb’s Groove, a quartet of R&B-infused jazz spearheaded by saxophonist Rodney Hubbard, for a two-hour set full of standards and Hubb originals, right in front of the Garfield Memorial.
