Pekar Park Comic Book Festival & Storytelling Evening
Honor the prolific late comic book author Harvey Pekar at this annual fest with all things comics including the original Batmobile! It’s held at Coventry’s Pekar Park named for the iconic American Splendor author. Comic book vendors, authors and illustrators (including Gary Dumm who illustrated American Splendor) set up in the park this Saturday to sell their limited- edition goodies and participate in panel discussions. Though the festival ends at 5 p.m., the stories don’t stop there. Head across the street to the Grog Shop where, from 6-7:30 p.m., local celebrities and Clevelanders become heroes on the stage when they share their own real-life tales with Story Club Cleveland. July 15, noon-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m., Pekar Park Courtyard, Coventry and Euclid Heights Blvd., and the Grog Shop 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Heights, coventryvillage.org
Fiesta Latina in the Square
For 49 years, the Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center, named for the Puerto Rican poet, has been parading her country’s pride through the streets of Cleveland. But with newly increased funding, they decided to host an event that unites all Latino communities this Saturday at Public Square. Organizers hope the diversity of the audience will match the diversity of the offerings, so regardless of where you come from, stop by the cultural stations scattered throughout the park for arts and crafts, face painting, music and dancing. Free, July 15, 1-8 p.m., 1 Public Square, Cleveland, juliadeburgos.org
