Bill Busta Talk: Ghost Images
Two years after announcing his retirement and the closing of his Prospect Avenue gallery that helped Cleveland artist thrive, William Busta remains an influential figure in our arts scene. Busta, who curated Zygote Press’ current Ghost Images exhibit, hosts a lecture and Q&A session Saturday at 1 p.m. The longtime art dealer explains his selection of Depression Era etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and other woks from his own collection that are paired with some from Zygote’s 20-year archive collection for the show. Between Riverside and Crazy
Dark comedy, emotional turmoil and some family drama is what you get from this Pulitzer Prize winning drama written by Stephen Adly Guirgis. After the death of his wife and being shot while off-duty by another police officer, ex-cop Walter “Pops” Washington is determined to keep his beautiful two-bedroom apartment on the upper west side of New York City. Even after advice from his family and friends, he ignores the eviction notices and refuses to settle the lawsuit against the NYCPD. Edible Books Festival
We’re always eager to dig into a good book — especially when it’s this tasty. On Saturday, Loganberry Books and Strong Bindery host the 13th annual Edible Books Festival. Its only one rule? All art must be book related and edible. Participants receive miniature book pins and the entrants compete for awards in categories such as most literary, most appetizing, best binding and best pun. Pop up Music Festival
Spring has sprung, so grab some flowers, put them in your hair and get out to Sphere Productions’ Pop Up Music Festival. Kicking off the season Friday at the Theatre at Play Arcade + Kitchen, the festival brings together a variety of bands such as Brave Bones, an indie and rock n’ roll mix, and Teasebox, a country and bluegrass band. Big Love Festival: Bounce Beyond
Show some Akron pride at the Big Love Festival. Hosted by the Big Love Network, the interactive, hands-on arts event brings together artists, healing practitioners, musicians and more to bring people together and represent what a perfect day in Akron would look like.
