If you were to drive west on Fairmount Boulevard in Shaker Heights, you’ll eventually find an old blue house. Shrouded behind a plethora of trees in the front yard, the nearly 7,500-square-foot house sits far back on the plot of land, its faded blue wooden siding and large windows offering foreboding vibes for anyone passing by.
Those vibes are what drew Akron-based screenwriter and producer Jess Byard to use it as a filming location for Baby Oopsie in June, the fifth installment of the Demonic Toys film series produced by Full Moon Features. The movie premiered in August and is available on Full Moon’s streaming service. Byard helped film more than 80 scenes across six days in the home, which is owned by Full Moon.
“The house and everything that we were working with was just gorgeous,” says Byard, who also works at Red Point Digital, a video production company based in Akron. Some of the most environmental work came in the spacious basement, which Byard filled with an abundance of dolls — the porcelain background of main character Sybil Pitman’s vlogs.
Baby Oopsie wasn’t Byard’s only foray down Fairmont Boulevard this summer, as she spent four days in August helping film another horror movie on the property. “The house has a lot of character,” Byard says. “It’s like we have our own little sound stage in Cleveland.”
