You've cursed at the Rubik's Cube and maybe even attempted to crush it in disgust. The Great Lakes Science Center understands your frustration, so it's hosting the Beyond Rubik's Cube exhibit through Sept. 7. Fifty stations unscramble the brainteaser including this 10-foot-high, 2,367-pound cube that reveals its inner mechanics. "It is considered to have a perfect intersection of design engineering to get those squares to move the way they do," says Kirsten Ellenbogen, president and CEO of the science center. But the puzzle is a piece of pop culture too, so view a Martin Luther King Jr. cube mosaic and make a masterwork of your own. Glean secrets from on-site speedcubers or simply let technology take over. "There's a robot race where you challenge robots to solve a scrambled cube," says Ellenbogen. After witnessing the twists of the trade, you can try your hands at the fastest solve time — 5.25 seconds. 601 Erieside Ave., Cleveland, 216-694-2000, greatscience.com
