What began as an art project where individuals could send in anonymous postcard confessions has exploded into a website, a book series and now a theatrical production — with more than a million submissions from throughout the world.
"People feel the anonymity, and they know it's a safe, nonjudgmental place," says creator Frank Warren, who started PostSecret after volunteering for a suicide hotline and having family secrets growing up. "When they see other people being vulnerable and courageous, it inspires them and creates this cascade of sharing."
PostSecret: The Show comes to the Ohio Theatre March 13. Audience members can share secrets via a live Twitter feed wall prior to the show, and actors kick off the performance by revealing their own secrets.
"It's kind of exciting how we're breaking down the fourth wall in this production," says Warren.
While immersed in stories, dramatizations, recordings and live music, the audience can submit anonymous postcard secrets that will be read onstage. Discover a few local secrets below.
