CLE Takeout Guide: Get Your Coffee, Tea And Pastry Fix
From much-needed espresso to a box of pastries, check out these spots offering to-go coffee, tea and more.
Akron Coffee Roasters opened four years ago with a focus on roasting single-origin coffee beans from around the world, such as the Kenya Dagitu ($16). The real treat here is the limited batch roasts, such as the tart, fruity Tanzania ($16), and weekly, biweekly and monthly subscription services that deliver 10-ounce bags of whole roasted beans to your door. “You get a unique experience every time,” says owner Albert Macso. 30 N. High St., Akron, 330-208-0516, akron.coffee
Edwins Bakery
Edwins Bakery is like a neighbor-hood patisserie plucked right out of France, with one exception: it was born from restaurateur Brandon Chrostowski’s celebrated mission to educate and employ the formerly incarcerated in the culinary arts. With a full dinner menu and 140 loaves of bread baked each day, Edwins also offers an extensive list of drip coffee, espresso and tea to take home. For home bakers, ingredients such as yeast and glazing chocolate are available for sale. “People can come in and grab what they need to re-create the experience at home,” says Chrostowski. 13106 Buckeye Road, Cleveland, 216-675-0896, edwinsrestaurant.org/bakery
Gypsy Beans
From the heart of the Gordon Square Arts District, Gypsy Beans has been providing wayfarers java since 2007. For worldly sippers, there are more than a dozen globally inspired lattes, such as the Mexico City, with hazelnut and cinnamon syrup. The spot has 36 teas and offers 96-ounce containers of coffee. “It means so much to me to see our customers carrying our products out into the world because we know they’re carrying out a little bit of the love that we put in,’ ” says owner Nicole Gillota-Brichacek. 6425 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, 216-939-9009, facebook.com/gypsybeans
