Those working or living in downtown Cleveland have become fond of Sushi 86, a small Japanese spot inside 5th Street Arcades. The eatery, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer, is known for a fresh, inexpensive menu full of bright, bold flavors such as the cold poke ramen, a mashup of two of our faves. But what we order the most are its sushi rolls.
They’re the ultimate takeout in our opinion: compact, beautifully displayed, with an array of textures and flavors. You’ll find classic renditions such as the California Roll along with adventurous picks like the 3-Way Reverse Cowgirl, a massive tempura shrimp roll. “We put crab salad balls on top, and we top it with three sauces: spicy mayo, sweet and soy,” says owner Rachel Hsu.
“That’s for people who love cooked food.” With 30% of its business coming from takeout, Sushi 86 is getting ready to launch a new poke bowl shop called Poke 86 — adding even more excitement to our lunchtime takeout options. “That’ll be fun when it’s done,” says Hsu.
Try This: Danny’s BLT (14.50) is close to what you’d expect — bacon, lettuce and tomato, plus smoked salmon and spicy mayo — just in sushi form.
