Sip On Some Northeast Ohio Wines This Weekend
May 2 is Super Sipper Saturday, so here are three wines we suggest kicking back with.
Gervasi Vineyard’s Lucello ($22)
This light, crisp Pinot Grigio from the Canton winery has notes of citrus fruit and green apple and isn’t as dry as some variations of the style thanks to a hint of sweetness. It all adds up to a wine that’s a little more friendly to the palate. “That little softer edge is something that makes it just a little bit more friendly,” says Andy Codispoti, Gervasi’s director of winemaking and distilling operations. “It gives it a much broader appeal.” Try pairing it with marinated or grilled vegetables or antipasto. 1700 55th St. NE, Canton, 330-497-1000, gervasivineyard.com
Laurentia Vineyard and Winery’s 2016 American Cabernet Sauvignon ($40)
A rich-but-drinkable cab, the red wine features hints of black cherry, cedar, fig and tobacco, and a subtle smokiness. “Once you taste it, you really just want another sip,” says Laurentia co-owner Amy Blackie. “It's got some good spicy pepper and really rich, heavy tannons on the finish.” Pair the wine with pan seared or grilled meats for a perfect backyard session. 4599 S. M Cellars’ 2018 Dry Rosé ($15)
If you’re anything like us, there’s no bad time of the year to enjoy a refreshing rosé. But there’s just something so satisfying about sipping on one as temperatures rise, and this delicate, pink variety from M Cellars is no exception. “It’s just crisp, clean and refreshing,” says M Cellars founder and winemaker Matt Meineke. “It pairs with anything, including patio and the outdoor season.” He suggests pairing it with poultry, salmon and backyard barbecue. 6193 S.
