Chuck's Fine Wines
Owner Mike Howson's reputation as the "Swami of Suds" draws out-of-town collectors to check out the store's 500-plus beers from around the globe whenever they're in the area. The main attraction is a walk-in cooler packed with seasonal and hard-to-get selections such as rare English barley wines and vintage ales. "We've had virtually every beer worth talking about here for tastings during the last 15 years," he says. Those events include five-course dinners and cookouts, often with live music. 23 Bell St., Chagrin Falls, 440- 247-7534,

The Fine Wine & Tobacco
Approximately 120 of the 250 to 300 American craft beers and imports in stock are available as loose bottles and cans at a station where customers can build their own six-pack or case — a popular spot for compiling gifts and samplers. There's also a large humidor where co-owner Nicky Nasrallah or manager Bob Cahill will help you pick out a cigar to complement, say, a hard-to-find Arcadia Brewing Co. Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. 26179 Detroit Ave., Westlake, 440-892-7096, finewinewestlake.com
Rozi's Wine House
Rozi's isn't just a good place to buy brews — it's a good place to drink them. In addition to carrying 300 to 400 beers, the store maintains an enclosed patio (the garagelike doors are open in the summer) that serves up food such as steak sandwiches and even house-made chili. It also hosts frequent tastings where selections are sometimes paired with unexpected items such as LaBella Cupcakes. Patrons are invited to sip one of eight beers on tap or pop the top off a favorite beverage while they shop. 14900 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, 216-221-1119, rozis.com
Warehouse Beverage
The selection of more than 1,000 beers — everything from your father's Genesee to a special order of Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale — will make your head spin, even if you're completely sober when you walk through the door. "Beer brother" Paul Speyer, one of three siblings who own and operate the 62-year-old establishment, carries breweries' entire lines. "I'm not a cherry-picker," he declares. He announces highly sought-after arrivals such as Bell's Hopslam Ale on the store's Facebook page. 4364 Mayfield Road, South Euclid, 216-382-2400
