Heart Of Gold’s Smash Burger ($14)
Don’t let the name fool you: rather than use the typical thin-patty approach, this double smash burger smothered in a vinegar-y maggi mayo and layered with dill pickles and sweet onions is one glorious mess of a burger that’s easily a standout on a menu ripe with casual fare. 4133 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, 216-938-8711, heartofgoldcle.com

Teriyaki Express’ Dragon Roll ($10)
For the last couple months, I’ve been on a sushi exploration. Most recently it’s brought me to Teriyaki Express in AsiaTown, which has jam-packed, filling rolls that somehow still leave you wanting more. The Dragon Roll might as well be two rolls in one, with crunchy shrimp tempura, crab stick, smooth avocado, cucumber and a generous drizzle of spicy mayo. 3226 Clark Ave., Cleveland, 216-938-6000, teriyaki.express

Mashiso Asian Grille’s Korean Beef Bowl ($8.20)
Mashiso has been a mainstay in my restaurant rotation since its Edgewater location opened last July. I tend to go for the Korean beef bowl with noodles, steamed broccoli and carrots, Hunan sauce, cucumber and cheese finished off with a hearty topping of cilantro-chili mayo. Personalization never tasted so good. 11520 Clifton Blvd., Cleveland, 216-400-6144; 24954 Brookpark Road, North Olmsted, 440-801-1184, mashisoag.com

Butcher and the Brewer’s Crispy Pork Belly ($12)
When I say I want a summer salad, I’m talking about something like this downtown gastropub’s dish. Topped with crispy chicharon, the pork belly’s crunchy exterior explodes like a carnivorous Fruit Gusher filled with liquid-fat gold. These salty elements sit perfectly with sweet watermelon cubes, herbaceous basil and scallions and spicy pickled jalapeno. Like a Thai dish, it’s simple but hits every note. 2043 E.
