Built on owner Daniel Ang’s dream of introducing the eclectic cuisine of Singapore to the Midwest, the menu here is based on the traditions of the thriving port city of his childhood. Each dish is inspired by different street vendors from a variety of Asian cultures, including China and Malaysia.
By opering a popular food truck in 2019 and then this Lakewood space in December, Ang built his slate of offerings to mimic the experience of walking through Singapore, grabbing an item on-the-go. “Just like a hawker stall, every item is available for takeout,” he says.
Though takeout accounts for only 10% of business, Ang is committed to creating an ever-changing menu that challenges customers to try inventive dishes such as the deconstructed crab Rangoon. “Just like Singapore, I want people to bring a new food adventure home with them,” says Ang.
Try This: Char Bee Hoon ($9) is a close cousin to fried rice made with eggs, veggies and your choice of either shrimp ($1), tofu or char siew pork.
