CLE Takeout Guide: Superior Pho
The popular Vietnamese pho shop has a pro tip on how to get the freshest pho at home: ask for uncooked noodles. Just take them home and drop them in boiling water for about five seconds.
The entire menu is available for takeout and served just as bubbling-hot and hearty as usual, although president Chris Nguyen has a trick for the freshest pho to go. “Ask to leave the noodles uncooked,” he says. “Take it home, bring water to a boil, drop the noodles in for about five seconds, and strain before pouring the broth and accoutrements over it in a bowl.” The advice assures an at-home, immersive experience similar to the one you’d have at the restaurant.
Takeout accounts for about 25% of its business and the speed with which it’s prepared makes it popular for lunch. But you can’t go wrong with an order of chicken pho or spring rolls anytime. “You get all the same great flavors and freshness of ingredients when you do takeout as when you dine in with us,” says Nguyen.
Try This: The banh mi sandwich ($5.95) is stacked with pork cured in-house, pickled daikon and carrots, jalapeno and cilantro.
