The iconic Tower City building in downtown Cleveland, which was previously a train terminal, has been the star of investors' latest plans to breathe new life into the city.
Cleveland Sandwich Co. Owner Kevin O’Connell recently opened his second store in The ‘Eatery,’ the mall's food court, where he can bring his hand-carved sandwiches to hungry shoppers.
“I was approached by the owners, who were looking to bring in local establishments, and asked to bring my company into Tower City,”O’Connell says.
Opening day for the sandwich shop's new location saw a throng of hungry customers and supporters — over 100 people came to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb.
At this location, O’Connell wants to focus on his ‘West Coast’ burger concept, which resembles the iconic and juicy burgers one might find at popular fast food joints along the golden coast. A Los Angeles native himself, O’Connell says that his food is always fresh, never frozen, and affordable. Customers can dig into a double steakburger with fries and a drink ($12) or the hand-sliced corned beef, served cold or Reuben style ($12).
“Making things affordable is number one so everyone can enjoy — we want to bring fresh food to the masses,”O’Connell says.
As the first week of operations for the new store continues, O’Connell says the future for Cleveland Sandwich Co. is right where he is.
“I would love to bring my west coast burger concept to the suburbs, but for now I’ll keep focusing on serving fresh and delicious sandwiches here Downtown.”
