As we’re sure you’ve figured out by now, we’re all about wine this month. So, before you go out and scoop up all the tasty vinos we mention, Flight Cleveland owner Lindsay Smith offers tips to help maximize your new wine collection.
Avoid storing wine in your kitchen
There are few things in life better than the perfect wine and meal pairing. While the meal might start in the kitchen, the wine shouldn’t. “Try to store your wine somewhere where there’s not direct sunlight,” Smith says. “If you don’t have the room for a wine shelf, a bookshelf or counterspace will work.”
Double up to try your wine at different ages
As the owner of Flight Cleveland, Smith has seen her fair share of wine. But whenever she does try a new brand, she makes sure to stock up. “If I’m buying a new brand of wine that I’m thinking of collecting, I try to buy in twos or threes,” she says. “I might have one bottle right away and then save the other ones.”
Don’t be afraid to pop the top and take a sip
While there are some wines that are meant to age, don’t be afraid to get some you can drink immediately. Additionally, don’t feel stressed to drink an entire bottle in one night (though we won’t judge you if you do.) “Putting any type of open wine in the fridge will help prolong its life span,” Smith says.
