Knockout Flavor: Step Into The Ring At This Sandwich Shop
Randy Carter's new restaurant throws punches of tastiness you won't see coming.
Randy Carter is taking the knuckle sandwich to the next level. Sammich, Carter’s Collinwood shop that opened in May, features sandwiches named after famous fighters such as Jerry Hackney and Gorilla Jones. “I like boxing, so these sandwiches will punch you in the mouth with flavor,” says Carter, who is known for his popular Jack Flaps spots in Ohio City and the 5th Street Arcades. Featuring locally sourced produce and pork from Daisyfield in Sandusky, Sammich hopes to bring knockout flavors to a neighborhood that’s tired of finding the same old thing in a sandwich. Take on the Diaz ($8), named after vegan MMA fighter Nate Diaz. The veggie heavyweight, built with house-made roasted cauliflower, cucumbers, red peppers, basil and onion, is topped with olive oil and cheese. “It’s going to be rich with that buttery flavor,” Carter says. “Roasting the cauliflower turns it into beautiful, buttery meatiness.” 651 E. 185th St., Cleveland, 216-350-6888, sammich.co
