Our newest obsessions often come in the smallest packages, and that’s why we love Nano Brew Cleveland. Capable of producing no more than 22 gallons per batch, the glory of this low-stakes style of brewing is in experimentation. Brewmaster Andy Tveekrem goes wild using a one-barrel system to debut new brews every Thursday such as the Nano Lager Life, ($4 for 16 ounces), a dry but thirst-quenching brew.
But Nano has mainstays, too, like the fan-favorite White IPA ($5 for 16 ounces), which marries a smooth subtly sweet Belgian wheat ale with a hop-forward American IPA. “We can throw all sorts of wacky stuff in the brew kettle and see what comes out,” says owner Sam McNulty. “If it’s good, we keep fine-tuning it. If not, it goes down the drain.”
Our Pick: The Market Garden Prosperity Wheat ($7 for 23 ounces), which won a gold medal at the Great American beer Festival. This brew has a deeply satisfying blend of sweet wheat and pale malts . 1859 W. 25th St., Cleveland, 216-862-6631, nanobrewcleveland.com
