3 Things We Love: Shinola
The Van Aken District shop's offerings range from high-end watches to leather bags and purses.
Here are three items we’re obsessed with.
Men’s Slim Messenger Briefcase ($695)
If your travel style is a free-for-all, this luxe leather bag will still keep you organized. The over-the-shoulder strap keeps your hands free and a laptop pouch inside the bag will protect your electronics. Plus, it comes in six colors including black, cognac and moss green. “This bag is such an eye-catcher; it’s sharp and has a clean look,” says store manager Melinda Arko. “It’s the best-selling bag we have because of how dependable the leather is.”
Runwell Automatic ($1,095)
Forget finding that tiny screwdriver for a battery change — this watch runs off of your energy. As you move your wrist, the rotor oscillates and winds the spring that stores the watch’s energy. “As long as you’re wearing it, it will tick,” says Arko. “But it has a 36-hour power reserve just in case you need to take it off for a bit.”
Runwell Turntable ($2,500)
Shinola’s Runwell Turntable doesn’t just sound good. Thanks to the record player’s aluminum pieces, built-in phono preamplifier and belt-driven pulley, its sleek design is sure to fit in with any decor. “This is actually our first venture out into audio,” says Arko. “It dates back to Detroit, the city of music, and is hand-assembled.”
