Most of us have been there, waiting on the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority platform listening to that same Spotify playlist and warding off frostbite. But the new $20 million Cedar-University Rapid Station is enough to make us unplug and enjoy the ride. The station, which opened in late August, features a green roof and weatherproof waiting vestibule. But it's the interactive LED art installation by Jessica Langley and Andrew Curlowe that makes us proud to take public transit. With a wall of ever-changing deep blue and white lights, Emergence is a cross between a glittery holiday tree and a shadow puppet. "It has some sensors that pick up the movement of people, so that's where you see some of the lights changing and becoming more dynamic," says Mike Schipper, RTA's deputy general manager of engineering and project management.
