Camera Ready. Photos are fine. Really. The Horseshoe has a different policy on shutterbugs than most casinos because of the property's past. "There's a lot of emotional connection to the building," says Horseshoe marketing manager Christina Karas. "We understand that." Just don't photograph the gaming tables, and be respectful of other guests.
Beer Me. There are no free alcohol drinks at the casino (thanks, stupid state law), but the Horseshoe helps you get your hands on one without having to keep an eye out for a server. A touchscreen at each machine lets you order your favorite cocktail or brew with a few taps. Fair warning to low-stakes gamblers: We got fast service on the penny slots on a Saturday afternoon, but the same spot on a busy Saturday night found us still beerless after 30 minutes.
Tweet Deals. Keep an eye on the casino's Twitter feed (@horseshoecle) for special offers. In June, the casino promoted a $49 social-media hotel rate at the Renaissance for the night of Friday, June 8. During Marine Week, it gave guests with a military ID and a casino rewards card 50 percent off breakfast and dinner buffets.
Comp Time. We've got good news and even better news. Horseshoe floor hosts do comp guest meals at their discretion, and the options aren't limited to the food served on premises. The casino has relationships with more than a dozen restaurants within walking distance of Public Square, including Morton's, Johnny's, XO Prime Steaks, Pickwick & Frolic, Pura Vida and Chocolate Bar. If you're not enough of a high-roller to eat for free, you can turn your Horseshoe rewards-card points into a voucher for a discount on your meal. Every 200 reward credits gets you $1 in comp.
