Q: Why are fields such as finance, supply chain management and marketing popular among today’s students?
A: “It’s largely driven, regionally, by the type of economy that has been historically present in Northeast Ohio and how that economy is evolving,” says Alan Miciak, dean of the Boler School of Business at John Carroll University. “We’ve had a huge transportation hub with railroads and the ports, so supply chain management is a major part of the economic forces here. We live in a financial world and hands-on individuals — particularly in the area of personal finance, investment management, insurance — have created a lot of opportunity in the financial services sector. We’re very fortunate in Northeast Ohio to have a really strong business community that is growing with some traditional employers and then a lot of innovative businesses coming in.”
