Q: Is creativity a skill that can be learned and practiced?
A: “With all of this new technology, the perspective of creativity is completely shifting from something a few students possess to something that everyone can learn, strengthen and develop,” says Jodie Ricci, chair of the performing arts at Hawken School. “Creativity is a critical and necessary pathway to their success in this changing world. We ask students to record their social interactions, their experiences, their environment and their discoveries. Through that framework, it gives them a visual representation of their creative process. It helps to push them to focus on what they bring to the world and what the world brings to them. That points them toward a more collaborative and inclusive understanding of creativity. We want to empower students through creativity and let them know that they can make the world better.”
