Q: How can students use the summer to prepare for high school in a fun and educational way?
A: “I know some schools require reading certain books to go into the next grade level,” says Shannon Lynch, special programming and curriculum coordinator at Magnificat High School. “We started this enrichment camp for seventh- and eighth-grade girls, because we wanted to give them a variety of different topics in different fields, from performing arts to humanities to STEM courses, that were designed to challenge them. I think giving kids the most engaging, hands-on experiences is the best. Engaging in conversations with people around you in your community, going out and doing activities at the zoo and Great Lakes Science Center and the libraries, or even taking some tutoring courses are all great.”
