We’re more than happy to get schooled in the art of craft beer — especially at this Case Western Reserve University spot. Located in the Thwing Center, the 12-year-old college bar recently converted its basement into an in-house brewery that can produce up to 3,000 barrels a year.
For owner Matt Vann and brewmaster JR Graine, it’s a study in creating a flavorful rotating craft beer list — think chocolate and caramel roasted oatmeal nitro stouts ($4.99 for 16 ounces) and a bright, refreshing lights on lager ($4.99 for 16 ounces). Homebrewers can score extra credit by taking the Jolly Scholar’s eight-hour brewing course, where you’ll create your own beer to be served on tap to your fellow classmates.
Our Pick: The Super Outbreak ($4.99 for 16 ounces), a hazy IPA. 11111 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 216-368-0090, thejollyscholar.com
