With layers of fries, cheese curds and gravy, poutine — the unofficial fast food of our Northern neighbors — is quickly becoming our favorite Canadian import. Farm-fresh ingredients and funky combinations make the 10 options at Banter Beer and Wine a study in global exploration. "It's not a term that's on everyone's food brain," says co-owner Matthew Stipe. "People are coming in and not sure what it is and are blown away." Dig into the rabbit pot pie version ($12), piled with braised rabbit, carrot, onion, celery, peas, gravy and cheese curds while cozying up to the bar. As for what to drink, Stipe's got that covered too. The Gordon Square Arts District spot's massive beverage menu includes 10 drafts (try Duvel, a Belgian golden ale), 250 bottled wines (ask for the Leo malbec) and 500 bottled beers. It has all the makings of a foodie destination, eh? "People like that it's a unique concept," Stipe says. "We're doing something that hasn't been done in Cleveland." 7320 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, 216-801-0305, bantercleveland.com
