CLE Takeout Guide: Great Lakes Brewing Co.
What would the Ohio City brewpub be without beer to go? Its takeout menu features popular gastropub items with crowlers and growlers of its award-winning ales.
For executive chef Michael Coleman, that means knowing what works well when it comes to packaging to-go orders. He opted to leave off items such as the bone marrow and cassoulet, but included favorites such as mac ’n’ cheese and the brewery’s famous bread pudding. Extra thought was given to each dish’s packaging, too.
“We separate the sauce from the dishes,” he says. “We don’t put the sauce on top of the pretzel chicken or the pretzels in with the soup.” And of course, what would Great Lakes be without beer — crowler cans and growlers can be added to your order.
Try This: The Pretzel Chicken ($16 or $22) entree arrives with one or two chicken breasts crusted with pretzels and Parmesan cheese. The side of Burning River Pale Ale mustard sauce makes it a stand-out.
