Specializing in authentic Lebanese food and located in the heart of Playhouse Square, Zaytoon Lebanese Kitchen is the perfect place for a fast and easy pickup. On its busiest days, the quaint 10-seat eatery serves up 120 to 140 orders, with its busiest rush occurring around noon. “The core of our business is carryout,” says owner David Ina. “Usually they’re in a time crunch, so I set up the system to get food out quickly.”
With a slew of wraps, spreads and entrees, there’s a lot of flavorful food to take home or back to the office, such as a kickin’ roasted jalapeno hummus and the shish tawook wrap packed with roasted chicken, hand-cut fries, coleslaw and a savory garlic sauce. Even the falafel plate — made with organic, fried chickpea patties and served over brown rice with pickled turnips, tahini sauce and your choice of two sides — keeps well in plastic to-go containers for leftovers.
“We grind chickpeas with fresh herbs, onion, carrots, garlic, and then we mix in some dry seasonings and fry these,” says Ina. “I think our falafel is great. I’m really proud of that.”
Try This: The chicken shawarma ($12.49) is hand-shaved and served over brown rice with pickled turnips and a zesty tahini sauce.
