Great Lakes Strikes Again
Great Lakes Brewing Company's Blackout Stout beat out 40 other beers from around the world and won the Gold Medal in its category "Imperial Stout," at the 2006 Brewers Association World Beer Cup. This is the world's largest and most diverse international beer competition for commercial breweries with 2,221 entries from 540 breweries in 56 countries. Held every two years, the Brewers Association World Beer Cup is a global competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced today.
Blackout Stout joins GLBC's Edmund Fitzgerald Porter as a World Beer Cup medal winner (Edmund Fitzgerald has previously won two World Beer Cup medals). This prestigious award marks the fourth medal that Blackout Stout has won in major beer competitions.
GLBC's Burning River Pale Ale, Christmas Ale and Conway's Irish Ale scored the highest honors in their individual categories at the 2006 World Beer Championships conducted by the Beverage Tasting Institute of Chicago. Burning River Pale Ale scored 92 points in its category “American Style Pale Ale," Christmas Ale scored 95 points in its category “Winter Ale” and Conway's Irish Ale scored 93 points in its category "Irish Style Ale." These three beers were recently highlighted as medal winners in the May 2006 issue of All About Beer Magazine in its "Best of 2005" article, which makes them Gold Medalists two years running!

#28 Classics, Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Center
#65 Sans Souci, Renaissance Cleveland Hotel
#89 Century, Ritz-Carlton
