Whether you need some hearty and healthy treats, a fun toy or medications, these three local pet shops have your furry friends covered.
A Dog’s Life
If you want to focus on your pet’s health, look no further than this Chesterland shop that specializes in all-natural medicines, supplements and remedies for every problem your animal might have. The shop opened in 2004 after owners Mary and Tedd Berr were having trouble finding quality food and supplements for their pets. Now their shop holds countless medications for various ailments, special food for prescription diets, as well as toys, collars and supplies. “The main thing that we do here is we focus on individualized customer care,” says Jennifer Kluk, the store’s manager. “It is our priority to know someone’s name, their dog and cat’s name. It’s a very personal relationship.” Item you’ll love: If your pet is feeling a bit frazzled and anxious, Pet Releaf CBD oil ($40-$100) works for cats and dogs. 12654 West Geauga Plaza, Chesterland, 440-729-7722, adogslifestore.com
Pet’s General Store
Located in an old building on Madison Avenue, this Lakewood shop has been around since 1985 and has a cozy feel that matches the personalized service you’ll receive upon walking in. Greg Schnupp, who bought the store back in 2000, says the store is a one-stop shop for everything your pet needs, including all-natural treats, engaging toys, grooming services and even aquarium equipment and repair materials. “It’s sort of like stepping back in time when you come into our store today,” Schnupp says. “It’s real warm, cozy, and really, more of a welcoming kind of family atmosphere.” Item you’ll love: The classic round Anchor Hocking Drum Glass Goldfish Bowl ($10.99) is perfect if you’re a first-time fish owner. 6821 Madison Ave., Lakewood, 216-226-0886, petsgeneral.com
The Pet Loft
This family-owned shop has been around for 18 years and focuses on a highly curated selection of dog and cat food, along with toys and supplies. Owner Jim Hastings and his wife were tired of driving far to get food with healthy ingredients. They source food from only the best pet food brands including Blue Buffalo, Best Breed, Blackwood and others. With all these choices, they also focus on finding each customer the best item for their pet. “We’re in a small township, but we draw people from maybe 25 miles away,” says Hastings. “We try to find out exactly what their needs are and what will help them.” Item you’ll love: Keep your cat occupied for hours with an all-natural From The Field Cat Toy ($5.99) made with hemp fabric, rope and organically grown catnip. 1947 N.
