Guests at ThornCreek Winery come for the events but stay for the wine. From intimate farm-to-table dinners to 350-guest weddings, the winery’s nine acres of award-winning gardens and elegant indoor ballroom and restaurant are the perfect setting for events, which regularly include live music and performers such as the Cleveland Ballet.
“Everything has this rustic, elegant, clean-lined feeling,” says owner David Thorn of the property’s atmosphere. “It’s bursting with color and fragrance through the gardens.”
One sip of the vino though and guests are hooked. All 11 wines are small batch and handcrafted on-site using hand-picked grapes from places such as Alexander Valley in Sonoma County, California, and our own Great Lakes region.
“We do smaller quantities so that our quality remains super-high,” says Thorn.
That quality extends to the winery’s food menu, which changes seasonally but always contains ingredients from an on-site culinary garden. The menu is carefully created to pair perfectly with its wines and dishes are served on rustic boards that came from Thorn’s family farm. 155 Treat Road, Aurora, 330-562-9245, thorncreekwinery.com
Try This: Inspired by Thorn’s annual wine-tasting trip to Italy, the Owner’s Blend ($50) is a velvety blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and syrah grapes.
