What do you do when you’re the 29-year-old, 800-pound gorilla of the baked-goods industry? You freshen up your look, of course. The Mrs. Fields store at North Olmsted’s Westfield Great Northern mall was the first in the nation to receive the retail revamp the cookie chain is giving its 400 outlets during the next year. The contemporary, café-style look, which was unveiled here Sept. 16, also comes with new menu items, such as a “Cookies ’n’ Cream” smoothie and a line of brewed-to-order coffees. But the cookies themselves won’t change a bit. That’s probably for the best, since Mrs. Fields sold around 80 million last year alone. And, as you might have guessed, good, old-fashioned chocolate chip was the top seller.
